Sugar.... are we thinking about it in the best way?

Have we thought about sugar in the wrong way?

We always seem to ask ourselves – am I allowed to eat this sugar/sweet/cookie/cake/etc… surely I have earned it!

But maybe we are asking the wrong question…

See, these sweets and added sugars have been/and are being linked to weight gain, obesity, addiction and withdrawl, inflammation, hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, diabetes, high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and cardiovascular disease.

Wow, that is a pretty bad combination.

Maybe the question should be – have I eaten enough of the healthy, body-healing foods to help me override the bad effects eating a ‘treat’ is going to wreak on my body?

* Have I eaten my 2 cups of vegetables per meal?

* Have I eaten my 2-4 Tbsp of healthy fats (olive oil, avocado oil, nut/seed butters, nut oils, grass fed cream/butter) per meal to keep my hormones in balance, keep my blood sugars stable, and help keep me satisfied for the next 3-4 hours?

* Have I eaten enough protein at every meal and snack (15-20g of protein per meal depending on my individual protein needs) to keep me strong and also keep me satisfied for the next 3-4 hours?

* Have I had my dosage of fermented foods and/or probiotics today to keep my good gut bacteria healthy?

IF the answer is YES to these other questions, THEN we can start asking ourselves about having a sweet treat today…
